The Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund (Op-f.org) has undergone a variety of names and changes in its history. Until 1965, there were a number of individual local police and fire pension funds.  Under Ohio law, all local funds transferred their assets and liabilities to the Ohio Police and Fire Fund and effective January 1, 1967, the statewide fund began operating.

Today, the Ohio Police and Fire Fund includes more than 28,000 Police Officers and Firefighter, approximately 18,000 retirees, and more than 8,000 survivors.

The Pension Fund was and is designed to provide reasonable income to plan participants and beneficiaries following either service or disability retirement, or death.

The Pension Fund is a well-run model of retirement funds in the United States.  The Board of Trustees take the issue of the investments of its very seriously.  In August of 2013, the market value of all the investments managed by the Fund was over $13.1 billion
